13  3/25 International Sweethearts of Rhythm: America’s #1 All-Girl Band Organized to raise money for their Mississippi orphanage in the late 1930s, the International Sweethearts of Rhythm became a sensation in the 1940s. This program tells the story through their recordings, interviews with surviving band members, and the music of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band.

The Jim Cullum Jazz Band brings these writings to life with the help of Vernel Bagneris, star of the Broadway stage.

16 4/15  The Kid from Red Bank: 100 Years of the Basie Beat Jazz Appreciation Month is in full swing and Riverwalk continues the celebration with a program saluting Count Basie on his 100th birthday.
17  4/22 William Gottlieb's Golden Age of Jazz The Jazz Appreciation Month celebration continues as famed jazz photographer, William P. Gottlieb shares stories about his life in jazz. Gottlieb was hired by Downbeat Magazine to write about jazz but it was his photographs that helped document the Golden Age of Jazz.
18 4/29 Midnight Moods: The Small Combo Sessions Good things come in small packages! Tune in for a program featuring the best of the small combos that have taken the stage at The Landing. 20  5/13 Fletcher Henderson and Don Redman: The Birth of the Big Band Reed Section Allan Vaché and Kim Cusack join The Jim Cullum Jazz Band in a tribute to the signature arranging style of Fletcher Henderson and Don Redman at the Roseland Ballroom in 1920s New York. Their work led directly to the now-familiar big-band sound that defined the Swing Era a decade later.

Take a musical excursion to the Emerald City with a script from the original L. Frank Baum book and music from Harold Arlen’s movie score in new jazz band arrangements. Vernel Bagneris plays the parts of Dorothy, the Tin Man, The Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion, as well as that of the Wizard.
