Nina Ferro

Nina Ferro
Nina Ferro is one of the brightest stars to emerge on the Melbourne, Australia music scene over the last decade. She is a singer with a wealth of experience and the skill and taste to make the most of every song she performs.

Nina Ferro started singing at the age of 14, and began singing jazz at the age of 16.

Nina was classically trained at school and participated in a number of choirs, musicals, and elite vocal ensembles.

In 1991, during her last year of High School, she joined the Hotter than Six jazz band; a band popular for its young musicians. While working regularly around Melbourne, she began studying at the Victorian College of the Arts with the Improvisation Department. Along with this, she joined a contemporary improvising ensemble, Ten Apples on Top, a group made up of former VCA students.

With Hotter Than Six she traveled interstate and overseas to Vanustu for the South Pacific Jazz Festival and was featured in 1994 and 1995 at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Nina has also featured at such festivals as York in Western Australia and several festivals along the Gold Coast, Queensland.

In 1995, Nina was featured in a number of newspapers and magazines, and in November was nominated as one of Australia's 50 Most Eligible Women of 1995, as seen in the November issue of Metropolitan Style magazine.

Nina has also featured with many other bands such as Mistaken Identity and has worked with Dan Burrows, Bob Sedergreen, and Riverwalk guest Bob Barnard. She has continued to sing frequently at conventions and festivals, and in January 1994 won the Montsalvat, Yalumba Jazz Medal for the Most Up And Coming Jazz Talent Under 25 Years of Age.
